Cut throat competition in today’s world leaves very little time for us to look beyond ourselves. The struggle for survival has become even more intense by the emphasis put on self expression by the popular culture. Yet, from time to time we are shaken to the core by the still small voice that is waiting to be heard within each of us. Baba Amte was shaken by the sight of Tulshiram, a dying leper, helpless, drenching in rain, maggots crawling through his decayed body. He responded to that still small voice and his passion turned into a lifelong mission. As he rightly points out in his poem, we can at least pick up a small manageable mission only in our retired lives. This episode is dedicated to his memory.
